HONOLULU — After sweeping the first Big West road trip of the season, the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team returns to Mānoa for a two-match conference homestand set for Friday and Sunday at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine (9-5, 3-1 Big West) face UC Davis (9-5, 4-1) at 7 p.m. Friday and close the weekend against UC Riverside (5-13, 0-5) at 5 p.m. Sunday.

UH entered the week as part of a six-team tie for first place in the Big West. UC Davis edged ahead of the pack with a sweep of UC Riverside on Tuesday before making the trip to Hawai'i.

'BOWS NOTES

  • The Rainbow Wahine dropped the first two sets of last week's road trip before rolling through the next six in wins at UC San Diego and Long Beach State. UH rallied past UCSD in five sets last Friday then swept LBSU on Saturday.
  • Over the final six sets of the road trip, the 'Bows posted a .333 hitting percentage while holding UC San Diego and Long Beach State to a combined .070.
  • Caylen Alexander was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and Kate Lang earned the Setter of the Week award for the second time in her senior season and the 13th time in her career.
  • Alexander averaged 5.25 kills per set while hitting .405 in 74 total attempts last week. She entered the week third in the nation in total kills (290) and kills per set (5.00), fourth in total points (319.5) and sixth in points per set (5.51). She leads the Big West in each of those categories.
  • Alexander has put away at least 20 kills in eight matches this season and has a team-high nine double-doubles.
  • Lang is second in the Big West in total assists (592) and third in assists per set (9.55). She raised her career total to 3,822 to move into fifth in program history during last week's road trip.
  • UH placed 42nd in the season's first NCAA RPI ranking, the highest rating among Big West teams. The 'Bows have faced three teams in this week's top 15 (No. 7 Texas, No. 11 SMU, No. 15 Baylor).
  • UH has played at least four sets in 12 of its 14 matches this season with eight matches going to a fifth set. The 'Bows have played 62 out of a possible 70 sets and are 5-3 in five-set matches.
  • UH's eight five-set matches this season marksthe most since playing nine in 2017 (3-6). The 'Bows' five five-set wins is the most since 2019 (6-1).

UC DAVIS

  • UH has won the last 18 matches with UC Davis and swept last year's lone meeting in Davis.
  • UH has swept four of the last five meetings. The exception was a five-set victory on Oct. 29, 2022 in Davis.

  • UH has won all 30 meetings in a series with UC Riverside that began on Dec. 12, 1974.
  • UH has swept the last eight meetings with the Highlanders since the teams went to five sets on Sept. 30, 2017 in Riverside.
  • UC Riverside head coach Nicky Cannon is in her third season and has a record of 15-62 with the Highlanders.
  • Mākena Tong, a junior from Honolulu, leads the Highlanders with 240 assists and averages 4.07 per set. Tong graduated from University Laboratory School.
  • Sophomore right side Trinity Sheridan leads the Highlanders with 184 total kills and averages 2.92 per set.
  • UCR ranks second in the Big West and 69th nationally with 100 service aces led by Brianna Bowyer's 22.
  • Jessica Dean leads the conference with 4.24 digs per set.
  • UC Riverside went 5-8 in its nonconference schedule, which included a 3-1 finish in the Pelican Invitational in New Orleans.
